The UConn Microbial Ecophysiology Laboratory focuses on understanding the regulation of cellular processes in methane-producing microorganisms (methanogens) from the Domain Archaea. To evaluate their role in free-living environments and host-associated microbiomes, we use techniques and protocols in genomics, functional genomics, metagenomics, anaerobic microbiology, and protein biochemistry. We are also interested in evaluating the mechanistic response of these microorganisms to different type of stressors, such as oxidative stress, metals, light, starvation, temperature, etc. Additionally, we have projects that focus on finding archaea in extreme and non-extreme environments!
